Big Horn Mine Hike
Big Horn Mine Hike
For a glimpse of local history and breathtaking wilderness, don’t miss the hike to Big Horn Mine. Depart from the parking lot at Vincent Gap, and take the trail on your left, which will traverse around Baden-Powell on an old wagon road toward the stamp mill. The gold was discovered by local legend, Charles Vincent Daughtery, who was hunting Big Horn sheep in the area. His restored cabin can be found below the trail in a quiet, charming little part of the forest. When you discover the mine, resist the temptation to go inside. You can easily get lost or injured. As always, respect your surroundings and leave no trace.
