Mormon Rocks

One of the most striking sights on the way to Wrightwood is the Mormon Rocks, which sit below the Cajon Pass along Highway 138.

These beautiful rock formations are a popular place for Wrightwood rock climbing and train spotting, as the rocks offer perfect views of the tracks leading up into California’s Mojave Desert. Spring and fall is the best time to enjoy the rocks, as summers can get quite hot.

For a nice hike, head to the Mormon Rocks Fire Station (located off Highway 138) and enjoy the 1/2-mile Mormon Rocks Nature Trail. It provides nice views of native desert plants such as sage, yucca and manzanita. The trail is well marked, located across a small bridge.
